Like many folks, one of my lifelines in this time is reading the excellent daily twitter commentary from Andy Slavitt. A few days ago he did the math for how many lives—real, flesh-and-blood, countable human lives—we can each save by staying home. I can’t get that number out of my head: forty people. The idea for this drawing came shortly after.
So in the weeks ahead, when I am feeling cooped up, frustrated, wanting to go out and enjoy spring, I will remind myself to think about the number forty—to count off forty of my friends and family in my head—and maybe it won’t seem so much of a burden. Maybe you’ll think about it now, too. Please stay safe, and stay home.
